THE HISTORY OF THE

AMERY AREA SENIOR CENTER

This is a little history on how we obtained the history of the Senior Center! In 2006 and 2007, one of our volunteers, Mary Fisher, sat down on two separate occasions with the two former directors, Joanne Ploszay and Sharon Hayek. Joanne and Sharon gave Mary their input on their part of the beloved Center.

On December 12, 2007, both Joanne and Sharon passed away. A few days earlier, Joanne had an aneurism and never woke from a coma. Sharon had gone in for heart surgery the morning of the 12th, survived the surgery, but never woke up. It was a shock to Amery and all the members of the Senior Center that both former directors would pass away, and on the exact same day.

We feel very fortunate that we were able to obtain, in their words, the history of the Amery Senior Center. A special “Thanks” to Mary Fisher, for writing up their memories.
